Love Dolores is a neighborhood effort, not a call center, so the quickest way to reach us is usually the same way you reach your picnic neighbors: straight through the channels you already use every weekend in the park. Whether you want to pick up a trash grabber on a Saturday afternoon, bring your business in as a partner, hand us a stack of posters for the next Community Day, or tell us about a broken bin near the tennis courts, this page explains who handles what and how to get an answer.
Below you'll find the four things people ask us about most: volunteering, partnering, press and creative requests, and the Eco-Popup sorting station at the corner of 19th and Dolores streets. If your question is really a quick one — what time the popup opens, which items can go in which bin, when the next clean-up is — skim the short answers first. They cover most of what lands in our inbox.
Quick answers
When is the Eco-Popup open?
Every Saturday, Sunday and holiday, 12 noon to 8 p.m., at the 19th and Dolores corner of the park. Come by with a bag of cans, bottles and mixed trash and we will help you sort it into the right bins.
Can I join a clean-up this weekend?
Yes. We always need extra hands, and no experience is required — gloves, grabbers and bags are provided at the popup table. Scroll to the volunteer section below to sign up, or simply show up and introduce yourself.
Where did my gallery photo go?
Photos uploaded through the pledge form on the homepage are reviewed by hand, so they usually appear in the Love Dolores Gallery within 24 hours. Keep uploads at web resolution — roughly 600 pixels wide by 720 pixels tall works best.
Something in the park needs attention
Tell us the date, the time and the closest landmark, and include a photo if you have one. Overflowing bins, abandoned belongings, or damage to turf and plantings all get routed to the right people much faster when we know exactly where to look.
Who to reach out to
Volunteers and Community Days
If you want to give your time, the sign-up form on the homepage is the fastest route: fill in your name, pick the Community Day you can make, and we will follow up with the meeting spot and what to bring. Groups are welcome — school clubs, office teams, neighbors from the same block — just mention roughly how many people are coming so we can pack enough supplies. Volunteers under 18 should have a parent or guardian along.
Good at design, photography or writing? Say so in your note. Flyers, chalk art, signage and the occasional newsletter all come from volunteers, and we are always short of people who can hold a camera steady.
Partners, sponsors and local businesses
Cafes, markets, restaurants and shops around the park have been part of this from the start. If you run a business nearby and want to help, the useful things are simple: keep a stack of #lovedolores cards on the counter, offer a small reward for volunteers, or put up a poster in your window. Reach out through the volunteer form and mark your message as a partner enquiry, and tell us what you have in mind and what dates you are thinking about.
Press, media and artists
Journalists, bloggers, podcasters and illustrators: yes, you can use our numbers, but please get them from this site rather than from an old article. The two figures we cite most are that food and beverage packaging makes up the majority of litter found on San Francisco streets and in its parks, and that cleaning up trash left behind at Dolores Park costs taxpayers roughly three quarters of a million dollars a year.
Artists who want to draw, photograph or paint in the park for a project: let us know the date and we will try to connect you with the crew on duty so nobody mistakes your easel for lost property.
Social and hashtags
Take the pledge first
Honestly, most questions we get are already answered by the pledge itself. Print the LOVE DOLORES sign from the homepage, decorate it, photograph yourself holding it, and share the picture with the two hashtags. Uploading a photo means you are promising to treat the park as well as you would treat your own living room: pack out what you pack in, use the bins, choose aluminum over glass where you can, and leave the grass to recover.
If you would rather write to us than post, that is fine too. Use the form on the homepage to sign up as a volunteer or to send a note, and include the word contact at the start of your message so it lands in the right pile. We are a small volunteer crew working around jobs and school, so a reply can take a few days — but every message does get read.
And if you are in the park this weekend anyway, the shortest path is the shortest walk: come to the corner of 19th and Dolores between noon and 8 p.m., find the table with the bins and the grabbers, and talk to whoever is standing there sorting cans. See you on the grass.
